Introduction of "National Specialty of Maternal Health Care" in West China Second University Hospital of Sichuan University
Early 2021, West China Second University Hospital of Sichuan University (WCSUH) was granted the title of "National Specialty of Maternal Health Care" after being appointed as national key clinical specialty. With the concept of integration of clinical and health care development, WCSUH integrates the service system of the whole reproductive period, from pre-conception to pregnancy, from delivery to postpartum and provides systematic health care services of high quality.
As a national specialty of maternal health care, it aims to provide improved medical care services for couples planning for pregnancy, for pregnant women and their newborns. It explores a characteristic service model integrating health care across the reproductive period, i.e. preconception health care, pregnancy healthcare, prenatal screening and prenatal diagnosis, intrapartum healthcare, and postpartum healthcare. It will also strengthen multidisciplinary collaborations and focus on the key development direction supported by critical maternal treatment and management. Moreover, it will improve the fetal medical diagnosis and treatment system, continuously integrate the resources from multi-disciplinary disciplines, enrich the contents of maternal health care services and innovate the service models to meet the growing needs of medical care of pregnant women and their families.
As a specialist hospital for women and children, under the supervision of National Health Commission of China, WCSUH will continue to improve the service capacity and further exhibit its characteristics of maternal and child health care. At the same time, WCSUH will provide technical guidance and leadership across southwest China, and China as a whole, to ensure maternal and child safety and reduce the incidence of birth defects.
