Introduction

Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, Department of Pediatrics, West China Second University Hospital, Sichuan University, was founded in 1973, and is currently one of the largest tertiary and referral medical center in western China, dedicating to the care of children with hematological diseases and cancers. With a long history, well trained faculty and staff, sophisticated medical and nursing facilities, our division has been highly reputed academically. Over the years, some of our famous professors have held important academic posts in a variety of professional societies, including vice director of the Chinese Society of Pediatric Oncology, Pediatric Hematology, Panel Members of Expert Committees of Childhood Leukemia, Hematological Diseases, Cancers under the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China, director of Expert Panel for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Childhood Hematological Disease and Malignancies, Sichuan Province.

Currently, there are 32 doctors and 83 nurses, including 3 tutors for doctoral students, 5 supervisors for master students, 7 academic and technical leaders endorsed by the government of Sichuan Province and the provincial health commission, 2 outstanding experts of the Sichuan province.

There are 140 beds, divided into three wards and one hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cell therapy unit with 12 laminar flow rooms. Annually, over 200 newly-diagnosed children with acute leukemia and over 100 children with solid cancer are admitted in our division. In addition, more than 100 cases of stem transplantation are carried out in our division. With great effort and professional dedication, we have been remarkably improving the prognosis of children with hematologic and oncologic diseases, and will continue to work hard to take best care of children with hematologic diseases and cancers.
