Introduction of the Department of Pathology

The Department of Pathology of West China Second University Hospital of Sichuan University was established in 1998. After more than 20 years of discipline construction and development, it has become a professional pathology department for women and children with sophisticated technology and rich experience. Our department is one of the first training bases for pathology residents in Sichuan Province, and is also the Southwest Regional Training Center of the Chinese Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (CSCCP).The department now has 63 staff members, including 35 physicians (2 with senior professional title, 8 with deputy senior professional title, 5 with doctor’s degree), 28 technicians (7 with professional title of supervisor technician, and 6 with master’s degree), 3 master tutors, 1 Sichuan Province expert with outstanding contributions, 1 Sichuan Province academic and technical leader, and 5 reserve talent candidates of academic and technical leader Sichuan Province academic and technical leader. Many professors in the department serve as vice-chairmen, standing committee members and members in many academic groups at the national, provincial and municipal levels. The department undertakes a number of national natural science foundation and provincial and municipal key scientific research projects, and has published more than 200 papers at home and abroad.

Our department can carry out the routine surgical pathology diagnosis, intraoperative frozen section pathological diagnosis, cytology diagnosis and fetal autopsy. At the same time, our department has a series of technical platforms, including tissue / cell immunohistochemical staining platform, PCR amplification platform, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) platform, laser micro-dissection platform and gene sequencing platform for micro-satellite instability (MSI) detection and short tandem repeat (STR) detection.
